Although I only acquired the Memorial Home less than ten years ago, I am no stranger to the Orient Heights area of East Boston. I was born and raised here - as were my parents and indeed my grandparents. I graduated from St. Dominic Savio in 1977 and, unlike many operators of family-run funeral homes who inherit the business, I commenced my chosen career with an apprenticeship to become a Funeral Director and Embalmer. After gaining my license in 1980 I worked in several local funeral homes in the Greater Boston area and gained a great deal of experience in both the good, and the not-so-good, things that different homes did. During that time I was also honored to serve a term as the President of the American Funeral Directors Association. I saw first-hand many changes taking place in the industry, particularly around 1996 when the corporate structured funeral homes started buying up our local family businesses. The personalized family service was being replaced with boardroom decisions and stockholder manuals. It was then that I became determined to somehow start my own Memorial Home that truly symbolized my strong personal and professional belief, "personal service... at a personal time". I was most fortunate to be contacted by Mrs. Mazzarella who had operated the Mazzarella Memorial Home in Orient Heights since her husband passed away in 1982. In October of 1999 an agreement was reached and after extensive renovations, remodeling and complete upgrading, the Ruggiero-Mazzarella Memorial Home was a dream become reality. Absolutely no expense has been spared to create one of the most modern and spacious Memorial Homes in Massachusetts. We are very proud of our truly 'family' Memorial Home and the personalized services we offer and urge you to take a few moments to look through our web site. These page only give you a brief look at the Ruggiero-Mazzarella Memorial Home, so please accept my personal invitation to contact me at any time and arrange to see our facilities first-hand, or to discuss any questions you may have. Yours faithfully, Joseph L. Ruggiero
